Lighthouse Staffers Study Human Guide Technique
Lighthouse of Manasota is holding a series of educational seminars for our staff, in order to learn more about interacting with the visually impaired community. Thursday’s class on Human Guide technique focused on the technique and etiquette of assisting people with low vision or blindness to navigate challenging situations in public. The proper technique involves holding the guide’s arm near the elbow to recognize changes in direction, avoiding obstacles, narrow spaces and dealing with doors.
Staffers took turns wearing goggles which simulate different vision conditions and being guided through the classroom and offices, then switching to guide others.
