Lighthouse Book Club learns 5,000 years in history of Osprey
John McCarthy followed over 30 years as Sarasota County Historian, with his current position as Executive Director of Historic Spanish Point. On Friday (February 1) he gave a presentation at the Lighthouse Book Club featuring artifacts from different eras of history, including shell tools of the Native Americans who settled there 5,000 years ago. The items were passed around to evaluate by touch or sight, with a challenge to guess what the items were and what era they would be from. Spanish Point is a rare spot with so many years of relatively undisturbed Florida history, and well-documented over the last 150 years.
