Welcome

Welcome to our website. We invite you to open this virtual door to the Lighthouse and experience a sample Cooking Classof what you can find here. Our recipe for quality education and advocacy starts with a caring and committed staff, is mixed by an involved board of directors, has a dash of volunteers --- and is all warmed by loyal supporters. We hope that you will come to visit us or refer members of your family who are ready to regain skills they thought were lost or undertake new activities. Let's cook up new experiences together at the Lighthouse.

Who we are

The Lighthouse is a nationally accredited, non-profit agency dedicated to assisting all people with vision loss or blindness. Based in Sarasota, Florida, the Lighthouse provides free, professionally taught classes and sponsors support groups across five counties. Through interview and assessment, classes and resources are carefully chosen to provide each client with skills to live independently and with confidence to undertake activities.  The Lighthouse offers education, support and motivation within an environment that is enriching for individuals with vision loss.

Our five county region includes Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, Charlotte and Highlands. The communities we serve include the cities of Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, Ellenton, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice, Englewood, North Port, Arcadia, Sebring and Avon Park.

We extend our education into the community through presentations, speaking engagements and mini-courses. Call the Lighthouse today for a presentation to your retirement community, church or civic group.  Speakers are available by calling:
